We are technology agnostic at SOtech, which means we always work with our clients to establish the right technology for their needs and budget. That being said, we are equally at home using WordPress, WooCommerce, Magento, Shopify, Laravel, Vue or React meaning we can offer both off-the-shelf or bespoke solutions for our clients
Recently acquired by Adobe, Magento offers one of the most comprehensive and feature rich eCommerce platforms in the world. Magento has more the 250,000 merchants worldwide using the platform and with the launch of Magento 2 in 2015, the platform has continued to grow and expand. Being open source Magento has a huge developer following meaning if you can think of it, someone, somewhere has probably built it on Magento. Our Head of Development, Kevin Mace, was one of the first fully certified Magento 2 developers in the UK and continues to be an active member of the Magento community while leading all of our Magento projects.
WordPress is probably the most commonly used platform in the world, with an estimated 20% of all self hosted websites being built using WordPress. Historical used for bloggers and content sites WordPress built its popularity on being easy to use and very set friendly. WooCommerce (a Plugin that sits alongside WordPress) is also the most popular commerce platform in the world with more than 3 million active websites using it. WooCommerce allows for quick product set-up and integration with any WordPress site, as with Magento, both systems are open source and are hugely flexible in what can be developed.
As a SaaS product (software as a service) Shopify offers a true ‘off-the-shelf’ solution. For a minimal cost non-tech’s are able to get an eCommerce site up and running and hosted for a single monthly fee using Shopify’s templates and default features. Perfect for businesses just starting out online, shopify offers extensive integrations with all the major providers of payments and marketing. Where we come in is where a business has outgrown the off-the-shelf basic Shopify offer and wants to explore a more bespoke installation to differentiate themselves from the market, this can also include upgrading to Shopify Plus, where the features and options become more. Suitable for established businesses looking to increase their growth.
