SoundGas

Digital Hub for vintage and exotic electronic instruments and recording equipment. SOtech provided strategic and technical guidance to improve existing site.
The Brief

We were part of the original tender process with Soundgas around 18months ago but narrowly missed out on the full design and build of their new WooCommerce site at the last round – which happens, no hard feelings.

Fast forward to December 2019 and a chance meeting between our MD, Mark Purdy and the owners of Soundgas where they mentioned a selection of issues they had been experiencing – and we ended up taking over the site anyway!

At SOtech we pride ourselves on really being a ‘partner’ to our clients, not just a service provider and this was something that Soundgas were really interested in. They also really wanted to work with a partner who understood eCommerce and all of it’s intricacies to help them plan their development roadmap.

Our brief was to migrate their site and perform a full audit (Technical, Functional and UX) to put together a roadmap for success for the next 12 months while also working alongside their budget plans.

The solution

After working through all of the user flows with the client and running a couple of strategic sessions with our MD we were able to identify and list of potential quick wins that could be worked on and released as individual updates over a 6 month period. These were agreed and planned in across multiple 2 week sprints and ran alongside our ‘business as usual’ support.

Code and Server Upgrades

Through a deep dive of the existing websites codes and server set-up were able to put in place a number of changes and optimisations which increased the websites Google Lighthouse Score by 45%

Implementation of New Checkout

Through our experience of UX and understanding the complexities of checkout flows we designed and built a brand new checkout for the business. The aim was to remove blockers and increase the chances of conversion.

Fix long standing Image Issues

As the company is very reliant on it’s photography of it’s vintage equipment we were able to improve the usability of being able to zoom in and explore each product directly from the product page – something that had been an issue since the site went live

The Results

The Client is far happier with our day-to-day processes and how we work and feels they have a better understanding and control over the development and support roadmap.

We have also supported the team at Soundgas to plan in scope out new offers and services in the coming future… watch this space!
